FACING Your Beautiful Future
The FACE program that you will read about in this book is an updated version of the popular SENSE weight-loss program, and it is the only comprehensive program that controls all four of the F-A-C-E aspects that cause accelerated, premature aging. FACE builds on the whole-body, systemic benefits of SENSE, using a skin- and collagen-specific approach to meet your unique skin-care needs. This means that in following the FACE program, you will realize every one of the benefits that our participants in the SENSE program enjoyed-reduced stress, better mood, less body fat, improved muscle tone, and more-but with the added benefit of having a targeted skin-health regimen that will reduce wrinkles, blemishes, and problem skin.
Let me tell you what to expect with Cortisol Control and the Beauty Connection. Part I gives you the science behind the FACE program so you can understand what goes on under your skin.
- Chapter 1 provides an overview of the FACE Program-my comprehensive metabolic approach to unifying the four primary, scientifically based antiaging theories into a single, easy-to-follow, realistic program.
- Chapter 2 provides a science-based overview of collagen and normal skin metabolism-how it should work, what it should look like, and what is going on under the surface of your body's largest organ.
- Chapter 3 delves into the "aging" process and its reversal through the FACE program, and it demystifies the metabolic process that our skin undergoes every hour of every day. By understanding a bit of the metabolism behind "normal" skin and "aging" skin, you can gain a deeper understanding of the hows and whys of FACE and how it can work for you.
- Chapter 4 discusses some of the primary causes and solutions behind our most prevalent skin issues: wrinkles, acne and blemishes, and uneven skin tone, including redness, rosacea, and blotches.
Part II gives you specific dietary information that you can follow to feed your FACE.
- Chapter 5 presents the Helping Hand diet, so named because you use the size of your hand as a portion-control device. This lets you balance your intake of carbohydrate, protein, fat, and fiber in a way that considers both the quantity and quality of the foods you eat.
- Chapter 6 discusses supplements you can take to control cortisol (the "C" of FACE), including ashwagandha, cordyceps, epimedium, damiana, magnolia bark, kava kava, ginseng, passionflower, Rhodiola rosea, schisandra, valerian, and theanine.
- Chapter 7 discusses supplements you can take to control oxidation (the "F"-for "free radicals"-of FACE). These include vitamin A, spirulina, vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, green tea, flavonoids/polyphenols, lycopene, lutein/zeaxanthin, and gotu kola.
- Chapter 8 discusses supplements you can take to control AGEs (the "A" of FACE)-that is, to control blood sugar. These include chromium, vanadium, zinc, alpha-lipoic acid, Gymnema sylvestre, banaba leaf, bitter melon, panax ginseng, and fenugreek.
- Chapter 9 discusses supplements you can take to control eicosanoids (the "E" of FACE)-that is, the effects of inflammation. These include essential fatty acids, evening primrose oil, borage oil, Boswellia serrata, bromelain and papain, flaxseed oil, ginger, and white willow bark.
- Chapter 10 gives you a step-by-step guide to starting and following the FACE program.
- Chapter 11 puts it all together with advice from various skin-care experts on how to care naturally for your most extensive, sensitive, exquisite organ-your skin.
- Finally, you will find appendixes containing recipes and exercises, and a Resources section listing contact information for the various sources mentioned in the book.
I hope that you're looking forward to starting your own FACE program. As an active researcher, and as someone who likes to apply science to help people and to "practice what I preach," I invite you to share your thoughts about Cortisol Control and the Beauty Connection and your experiences with the FACE program. Please feel free to e-mail me at www.cortisolconnection.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
